Bearings on most Coal Pulverizers require frequent monitoring and relubrication. High temperatures break down the lubricants, causing seal and bearing failures. While seemingly insignificant compared to the overall operating budget of a powerplant, the labor and materials it takes to maintain these bearings still adds up to a tidy sum.
The good news is that these costs can be all but eliminated. Close investigation at one powerplant showed that a savings of more than $30,000 could be achieved by investing in only $3,000 worth of XHT lubricant.
Some of the issues with coal pulverizer bearings are:
-
Rapid breakdown of lubricant in use;
-
Twice daily relubrication requirement;
-
Excessive use of compressed air to cool bearings;
-
Slip hazard due to thinning and leakage of lubricant;
- Unnecessary bearing and seal replacement.

For over 40 years Krytox® technology has provided state of the art performance for mechanical systems operated under harsh conditions. For the utility industry these applications include trunion bearings, steam valves, pedestals, pulverizer bearings, lance support bearings, gear boxes, exhaust dampers, and draft/induction fan bearings.
Industries where Krytox® is in use today:
- Power Plants
- Pulp and Paper Mills
- Chemical manufacturers
- Military Installations
- Aircraft manufacturers
- Automobile manufacturers
- Major turbine manufacturers

Where high temperatures are an issue, the new DuPont™ Krytox® XHT series lubricants have been designed and proven to provide the best available performance while lowering the cost of operation.
You can address this problem as follows:
-
Install Krytox® XHT–BDZ in bearings;
-
Krytox® XHT–BDZ will not break down;
-
Relubrication is now seldom needed;
-
No need to forced-air cool the bearings;
-
Slip hazard is eliminated;
-
Krytox® is environmentally safe;
-
Krytox® poses no health hazard.
